As women, we like switch up our style from time to time. We like to switch up the style, color, and texture if possible. After while you get tired of the same style. The reason why a lot of women stick to the same hair style, or look, is because they are afraid to try something new. Once you make that change it is pretty much permanent. If we don't like that change, we are stuck with it. To most women, our hair is our thing, and if it does not look good, are whole confidence goes down. Thehairstyler.com, gives women the opportunity to try out the hair style without actually doing it permanently. As a fashion major, I know how important image, and keeping up with the styles are. Technology plays a big part in our society. So the hair styler company, found a way, to reach that audience of people that like to change their look from time to ime. I love the different options of hair styles. I love the fact that you can pick from different celebrity hair styles. Its was a good idea for the site to include celebrities in this process, since they have so much influence in our society!

Zakiah Williams August 12, 2009 Internet Technologies R.I.P Manifesto This is an interesting artic. This article was a bout a movie. It was made by a web film maker, named Brett Gaylor. He is also a activist. The movie by a musician. A lot of the musician’s music is sample based. Probably, in the last twenty years people have been remixing songs and sampling songs from past music. Some people would say it is a little unoriginal. People feel that music should be original and authentic. The music should be from the heart and from your own experiences. I feel like when people sample or remix song, they are giving praise to the artist before them. Sampling some one songs, are like a tribute them. some times people have a connection to the song, and they want to put there own twist to it. This is to make the music there own. The author is also a video blogger, he works with the youth also. I think his motives are to inform and educate his young viewers and readers, on current events. That is where the activist comes out. It is important for people to use there platform to inform people. This film was said to be an experiment to see what people’s reaction will be. I the film is called R.I.P., because the sampling are dying down. People are making a new sound to music. That was in the past, and music like it is in the past also. This is a new time in society and in the world and things are changing . As a result those things are changing. We need people to document and make note these things, like the filmmaker did. I got this information from film.nfb.ca

Zakiah Williams Internet Technologies August 12, 2009 1000 True Fans This concept was based off of a view theories. The concept of this has a lot to do with the long tailed theory. That theory was based on the fact or concept that there is a overload, to the sales and the production of music on the internet. The author’s argument was that there is an overload on how people can sell and buy things on the internet. He argued that it was not as controlled as it is when it is bought and sold in a store. This relates with the 1000 true fans theory. It is about the overload of exploitation on people and their work. This theory is on the social network theories and how they are showcased. In this article, are that blogger are making money of the writers’ ideas. They are posting ideas, and having people respond. People are putting people in a situation were they are in a fish bowl, to be looked into. I think a lot of people have problems with these social networks. People are having problems with them, because are not communicating the way we use to. These social networks are making people less social and personal. Some people might say no one knows how to pick up the phone any more. It is the same with blogger, or myspace. You have so many people that view you as musician or as an artist, and you have people who are fond of you. I guess it is a smaller world of people. Is it the fact that people have a smaller audience, that people take to them more. I guess this article question how genuine people are, in these networks. I got the information from Novelr.com.

Zakiah Williams July 8, 2009 BLOG # 4 The Long Tail Chris Anderson is an author who wrote book about how music is being sold. Napstar and Itunes were one of the first internet/computer sites that sold music. People could simply download music appose to going to the music stores and purchasing CDs and singles. These sites have almost revolutionized the people purchased and hear music. The internet and these programs changed that. Chris Anderson talked with Vann-Adibe the CEO of Digital jude box, Ecast. Anderson was amazed at the success of the site. This sites has about 10,000 albums and 98 percent of tracks that get downloaded by customers. Anderson was shocked how the cure never quite got to zero. It might have been close but not quite. With selling music on the internet to people, it actually cuts cost down, from when you sell them in record stores. You do not have to worry about the cost of packaging. The cost of that is close to zero. You also do not have to worry about the cost of shipping and storage. So in the long run it is cheaper for the distributor. This might also change how music is received by people. You can take from this article that, people are down loaded music that may not necessarily be popular, but people are downloading them be the costs are cheaper than buying CD’s at the record store. This might suggest that consumers are buying a wider range of music, instead of the most popular music at the time. CDs can sell out, and then the record would be out of those products. With this service, its like an unlimited amount of music, being distributed. Anderson found out a lot of interesting facts about consumer behavior in his research. He found out that consumers like an unlimited selection. The more that they have to select from, the more they want to get. Like I stated earlier, consumers are starting to see a whole other type of music. The consumers got away from main stream, and found another type of music. I think what the author is trying to say is that the market is always reinventing itself. With sites like google, itunes, ebay, etc., there are numerous ways to purchase and find things. Despite the economy, people are still purchasing items, I think it is safe to say that they are trying to find an easier way. I think the main idea of this article how the internet is changing how people are purchasing items around the world. I got this information from business summaries.

Zakiah Williams June 24, 2009 Blog # 3 Iran Election The Presidential Election in Iran has caused outrage in Iran, and all over the world. It was said that the votes were not accurate. They suggested that the votes were rigged in some way. This caused protest that ended in both a lot of arrests and some deaths have came out of this outrage. Usually cnn, local news, New York Times, etc., covers these current events. Usually the news won’t stop talking about current events or tragic stories. Some people feel that the media wasn’t covering the story enough. This outraged the public even more. They were already outraged over what happen with the election, and some people feel that is was not getting much attention. When something bad happens, and doesn’t get the attention that it should get, the change doesn’t come. That made people even more outraged. At times social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc., have bad reputations. People often think that people waste to much time on these networks. A lot of people, think that people can use there time a little better than this. Like for example Twitter, some feel that it is pointless to let people know what fast food place you went to earlier in the day. In this case it what the exact opposite. These same social networks that often get criticized for there uselessness, is actually being a good use to the cause. The New York Times and BBC have been helpful in keeping us informed. Some cable networks have been good with keeping us informed. Some people feel like we should not give these social networks to much credit. They won’t take the place of media and the news. Bloggs and utube, may not be considered a social network, but it helps to get current events, and to get peoples’ opinions on the current events. At times you can’t always rely on journalist, the media, and news reporters to spread the news. Sometimes the people in the action should spread the word. That is what is being discovered about these social networks. Some people feel that they need to get the everyday peoples’ point of view. That is where these social networks come into play. It was said that about one thousand tweets were tweeted from all over the world. With certain pages, there would be so many tweets, that you would have to refresh the screen to get the information. There were a lot of deaths over this protest. There was a young a woman that died, and it was on Facebook. It was said that a lot of people were re-tweeting things that were tweeted to news on the current events. They were trying to update them as soon as possible. Google has been used to translate languages between different countries. This also makes it easier to translate news all over the country. Now Google is becoming a good tool on translating. These social networks are bringing traditional news casting down. People are not going to be relying on the news as much, more popular that these networks get. This might change the people watch and spread the news. I got this information from Larvatus Prodeo and Vator News.

Zakiah Williams June 17, 2009 Internet Tech Facebook Facebook is a social network that allows people to put up profiles about themselves. It allows people to put up pictures and comments about themselves. People can update pictures, comments, and there status, as often as they want to. By status, people can post whether their single, married, looking, and or their sexual preference. This is to let people know whether they are looking or not. Facebook is the most popular social network. It has about 200 million users world wide. It was started by a college student who was a sophomore in Harvard University. This was in 2004. His name was Mark Zuckerberg. At first it was only accessible to Harvard college students, and then it was extended to other colleges and then high school. It turned into a multimillion dollar business. There was controversial issue over who actually started the company. Three other Harvard college students claimed that they came up with the idea for this social network. They claim that they had him help to code the program, and he stole it. I think that Facebook is changing the way people deal with each other socially. People use face book to find and reunite with each other. People use this social network to keep in touch with family, friends, old classmates etc. instead of people writing and calling each other, they will contact each other on facebook. People use this to keep people up dated on current events. Events such as weddings, birth announcements, and other news. People rely on this as a form of communication. I wouldn’t consider facebook was real time. You could have update as you want to. You can consider it real time. This social network doesn’t really reshape the job industry that much. I guess you could use this to alert people about meetings. There are negative things about this social network. People often get addicted to these sites. People tend to look at their pages all hours the night. This is a negative thing, because people are spending time on these pages, and taking time from important things.

Twitter/assignment #1
